Pain can attack almost every part of the human body. Serious, chronic pain affects thousands of Rio Grande Valley residents each year, most of whom do not have to suffer.

While acute pain is a normal sensation triggered that alerts you to possible injury, chronic pain is different. Chronic pain persists and can endure for years. It can be caused by an injury or infection, arthritis or many other reasons.The symptoms of chronic pain include:

  • Mild to severe pain that does not go away
  • Pain that may be described as shooting, burning, aching or electrical
  • Feelings of discomfort, soreness, tightness, or stiffness

Other problems associated with pain include:

  • Fatigue
  • Withdrawal from activity and increased need to rest
  • Weakened immune system
  • Changes in mood
  • Disability
